Drawing on the complexities of everyday life, Where the Surface Breaks is a cerebral psychological thriller about self-awareness, accountability, and buried memories.
Steven Redding awakens to a terrifying scenario that he cannot explain: he's trapped inside his own bedroom closet, bound by rope, silenced with duct tape, and completely alone. He has no memory of the night before, no idea who is responsible, and no way to call for help.
With time running out and his strength fading, Steven must rely on his intelligence and creativity. But the greatest obstacle may not be the locked door in front of him—it may be uncovering the memories buried deep inside his own mind.
As the passing hours lead to a battle for survival, Steven is haunted by dreams and vivid flashbacks from his younger years. From Panama to Texas, the story of his life unfolds, revealing the relationships, painful choices, and unresolved conflicts that now force him to confront whether his captivity is connected to his past.
Is this a dangerous prank? A carefully planned act of vengeance? Or a reckoning for choices he believed time had forgotten?
With time running out and nothing but his thoughts to accompany him, Steven is forced to confront the choices he made in his youth—and soon discovers that his past may hold the clues to his escape.
A psychological mystery with unexpected twists, emotional revelations, and a race against time, Where the Surface Breaks explores the fragile nature of memory and the secrets we hide from others—and ourselves.
